NEW MODEL ARMY's Justin Sullivan: music - the weapon of his choice
- Series: Ökonomie
Justin Sullivan has successfully avoided any categorisation of his work for 30 years in a row now. But he doesn't avoid putting his finger in the open wounds of our society, be it as New Model Army's front man, with his solo thing, or with his project Red Sky Coven.
The means of expression used by the the versatile Brit all have one thing in common: music is his weapon of choice.
The exhibition „New Model Army – One Family One Tribe – Art and Artefacts“ (staged in the glass elephant of the Maximilianpark in Hamm) combined lyrics, instruments, and original paintings, resulting in a summary of their creative work. It's no surprise that the location of the exhibition is part of the Ruhr metropolis: first, Hamm is the twin city of Sullivan's hometown Bradford. Then, Sullivan is someone who likes to act local (according to himself) - and last but not least, he has grown fond of the Ruhr area during his numerous travels around the world.

2010LAB.tv met Justin Sullivan on the Devilside Festival 2010 in Essen - the inspiring conversation dealt with his work in the creative industry, changes in the music business, urban development accomplishments, crime in Bradford, and to what extent your background influences your creativity.
