EMSCHERKUNST - Bogomir Ecker 03

The world's smallest ocean is just 500 meters long, 250 meters wide, and situated in Herne. To be more specific: The Herner Meer ("Herne ocean") is a kind of harbor basin of the Rine-Herne-Canal above the lock Herne Ost.

Bogumir Ecker wants to set "water marks" there: lasting sculptures lengthening the headlands, playing with light and sound. The hollow steel sculpture, 22 meters high, has several openings alongside its body which cause a singing sound when the wind blows through them.

Saschko Frey follows the artist between the last pier at the harbour until the AMC Castrop-Rauxel during the simulation of the steel sculpture. With the exhibition Emscherkunst.2010, the Emscher island will feature the biggest art project of the Capital of Culture RUHR.2010.

City

Metropole Ruhr
These days, more than 5 million inhabitants do experience the transformation of their post- industrial Ruhr area in the western part of Germany to an exciting European „place to be“, a budding metropolis in a post-Capital of Culture 2010 identification process with its industrial culture as part of a collective memory being a characteristic feature – and an orchestrated mass event.
